[Advice] Thinking of moving my parents to Hyderabad. Are senior living communities like Serene BILVANI One actually a good idea?:
Thinking about moving my parents to Hyderabad and came across this piece of news Serene Communities, which I learned is one of India's bigger senior living brands, part of Columbia Pacific, is teaming up with Prathima Group to build senior living projects worth around ₹400 crore in the city.
Their first project, Serene BILVANI One, is coming up at Shankarpally. It will have about 265 homes designed specifically for seniors, with healthcare support from KITES Senior Care, and something called "SeniorShield" for preventive care.
On paper, it sounds nice - peaceful surroundings, medical help nearby, a gated community, and social spaces. Basically, it's the kind of setup I've considered for years for my parents.
A few years ago, we relocated my in-laws to a gated apartment complex in Pune designed for those over 60. What worked: access to healthcare, a sense of community, and less restrictions. Being somewhat cut off from the "younger family" side of things was what didn't work. For my parents, I would personally like a place that is convenient for visitors and has families nearby. How vibrant is the neighborhood outside the senior living facilities in this project? Are common facilities like stores and cafes close by, or is it too remote?
We visited the Serene Bilvani site last weekend; the setup is genuinely quiet, but connectivity to groceries and clinics still feels a bit thin. Hoping the retail part develops soon.
It’s good for long-term peace of mind but worth noting that resale demand for senior living homes is slower. So if you’re looking at it as an investment, maybe not ideal.
My aunt stays in a Serene community down in Coimbatore and she’s really happy. They have doctors visiting every day, events for residents, and small clubs. If Bilvani One is managed the same way, it’s a good option for folks who don’t want to live alone after retirement.
Yeah, I read about the same JV. Columbia Pacific’s Serene brand and Prathima Group sound like a solid combo. The preventive health part (SeniorShield) is actually interesting; they seem to be focusing on long-term wellness, not just emergency care. If they get the on-site medical setup and community activities right, this could set a benchmark for senior living in Hyderabad. Curious to see how they handle maintenance and service costs though; that’s where most senior projects tend to get tricky.
