How can NRI buy/sell property in India from abroad?:

I'm an NRI and recently moved to the US and living with my elder brother who is here from last 10 years. My brother has bought two 4 BHK properties in Hyderabad as investments and now planning to exit those investments and book the profits. What's the process if we would want to do these transaction without having to travel back to India. Also if I want to make more investments in the Indian Real estate, can i still do it from abroad. Can NRIs buy any type of property in India?

Is it complicated for NRIs to buy or sell properties?
Nandita09
Kinda, yes. There are a lot of rules about what they can buy, how they can pay, and how they sell.
Aadarshukla
Definitely more steps than if they were living in India. They need to be careful and probably need some good advice from experts.
Basu
But it's doable! Many NRIs successfully buy and sell properties, it just takes some planning and understanding the laws.

What about getting money back to their country after selling?
Basu
Yes, they can send the money back but there are rules. It depends on how they bought the property and how much money it is.
Aadarshukla
They should check with a bank or a financial expert to get the details right. Don't want to mess up and get stuck!

What if an NRI wants to sell their property in India? How does that work?
Ajitesh
They can totally sell it! If it's a house or land that's not a farm, they can sell to almost anyone, even other NRIs.
Ritesh
And if they inherited the property, like from their family, they can sell that too, even if it's a farm.
Ajitesh
Just remember, when they sell, the buyer has to cut a chunk of the money and give it to the government as tax. It's quite a bit if the property was sold quickly after buying.
Nandita09
Also, they need some specific papers like proof they own the property and some ID stuff. A lawyer can help make sure everything's right.
Ajitesh
Nope, they can't buy everything. NRIs can buy homes or commercial spaces but not farms or plantations.
Ritesh
Yes, that's right! And they have to use money from their bank accounts in India or send it from abroad. They can't just use cash they have lying around.
Nandita09
It's interesting because they can also get a loan in India to buy these properties. Makes it a bit easier, I guess!
