Anyone else not fully convinced about this $15B Google data center in Andhra?:

Saw the news of a data center coming to Andhra Pradesh, and I’m genuinely shocked by how much it’s being promoted as a great move. So, I was genuinely curious. Don’t get me wrong, I understand $15 billion is a very, very big investment, and on the surface it sounds like a milestone for both Vizag and the state. But the more I read and understood what a massive data center actually means, the more I started questioning whether this is the kind of “progress” we should be cheering without a second thought.

So, just listed down the pros and cons of data centers raised by many, And if you ask me honestly, I see many more cons than pros. if anyone else who can change my opinion or revert it in correct direction of why it is so good for the city it will be really helpful

Pros:

1) Brings large capital investment and visibility.

2) Creates short-term construction and supplier jobs.

3) May improve local power and road infrastructure.

4) Enhances digital connectivity and global relevance.

5) Can attract future tech-related investments.

6) Possible education or skill development initiatives.

Cons:

1) Very few permanent local employment opportunities.

2) Heavy power consumption may strain electricity grid.

3) High water usage in already dry region.

4) Increases local heat and environmental stress.

5)Potential rise in public electricity costs.

6) Minimal direct community or economic benefit

7) Risk of pollution from backup generators.

I agree with the cons I have mixed review as well but can't deny the economy it will create in long term is worth it, the main thing is government should be doing proper planning for future and how to integrate it safely and long term goal

Can anyone brief me what a data centre is basically new to tech

If even 10% of that $15B helps improve local roads, power supply, and connectivity, I’ll take it. But I just hope it doesn’t become another project where locals get nothing but the side effects
